Overview

The student residence permit is for non-EEA/EFTA nationals admitted to recognised full-time study, usually at university level, in Iceland. You evidence your admission along with means of support, housing and health insurance, and the Directorate of Immigration decides the permit, which you renew each year for the length of your course. Good to know: it is not a direct settlement route, and study time usually counts only in part toward permanent residence, but graduates can often switch to a job-seeking or work permit afterwards to stay on.

ℹ️ Who can apply?

You do not need a job offer or employer to apply for the Residence Permit for Students (Iceland). This route does not lead to permanent residence. Open to qualifying applicants from all countries.
