Overview
The Employment Gold Card is a four-in-one card combining a work permit, resident visa, Alien Resident Certificate and re-entry permit, created under the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals. It is open to foreign special professionals who qualify in one of the designated fields, and unlike an employer-sponsored work permit it is not tied to a single employer, so the holder may work for any employer, change jobs freely, or be self-employed. The card is issued for one to three years and time held counts toward the continuous residence needed for an Alien Permanent Resident Certificate.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Employment Gold Card require a job offer from a Taiwan employer?+
No. The Gold Card is applied for by the individual and is not tied to any employer. Once issued, the holder can work for any employer, change jobs freely, or be self-employed without a new work permit. This is its main difference from an employer-sponsored work permit.
Can the Employment Gold Card lead to permanent residence?+
Yes. The Gold Card grants residence, and time held counts toward the continuous residence requirement for an Alien Permanent Resident Certificate (APRC), which generally requires five years of continuous legal residence with at least 183 days of presence per year. Always confirm current requirements with the National Immigration Agency.
