Overview
This is Jamaica's work permit, issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (not by the immigration agency). It authorises an expatriate to work in Jamaica for a set period under conditions set out in the permit. The application is made through your prospective employer, sponsor, contractor or legal representative, and investors apply through JAMPRO. Good to know: non-Commonwealth citizens normally need to obtain a work visa before entering Jamaica to take up employment. The work permit is about the right to work; your stay is then endorsed separately by PICA.

Frequently asked questions
Who applies for my Jamaican work permit - me or my employer?+
Your prospective employer, sponsor, contractor or legal representative applies to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security on your behalf, and investors apply through JAMPRO. It is not a permit you file alone. Confirm the current process on the official Ministry of Labour page.
Is the work permit the same as my permission to stay?+
No - they are separate and handled by different authorities. The Ministry of Labour issues the work permit (the right to work), while the immigration agency PICA endorses or extends your actual stay. You generally need both. Confirm the current steps on the official pages.
