Overview
The Investor KITAS is a limited stay permit for foreign nationals who hold shares in, or serve as a director or commissioner of, a PT PMA (Indonesian foreign-investment company). Unlike the Work KITAS it is based on the holder's investment and corporate role rather than an employment contract with a separate employer. The permit recognises the applicant's position in a company in which their investment is formally registered. After several years of continuous limited stay it can lead to a KITAP permanent stay permit.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Investor KITAS different from the Work KITAS?+

Can the Investor KITAS lead to permanent residence?+
After several years of continuous limited stay on investor status you may become eligible to apply for a KITAP permanent stay permit. Check the current qualifying period and capital conditions on the official immigration page.
If I set up my own company in Indonesia, do I still need an employer to sponsor me?+
No. The Investor KITAS does not require a separate employer-sponsor; it is based on your shareholding, director or commissioner role in a PT PMA foreign-investment company and the company's registered investment rather than an employment contract. The company and its capital must meet the investor permit thresholds. Confirm the current conditions on the official immigration page.
